Celebrating Six Years of #LandNeedsGuardians (Copy)
“With the fire, we clean–so we can help the water breathe.”
Solomon Carrière, Indigenous fire expert and founder of the ‘We Are Fire’ project, explains how over time–without cultural burning–a historically biologically rich lake became smothered by overgrowth, impacting everything from the land to the animals that rely on it. Thanks to the reintroduction of cultural burning techniques, the lake can breath again. Not only does this restore balance, it means wildlife return, supports ecosystems as they recover, and helps prevent larger wildfires.
Watch and learn as Solomon explains how fire and water are interconnected, and why you should support Indigenous fire stewardship.
